Registration Guidelines


The Chicago Board of Education and Kenwood Academy Local School Council policies require satisfactory verification of an in district address and parents or court appointed guardian prior to student enrollment at Kenwood Academy.

All ORIGINAL documents are required to be in the parent's or legal guardian's name to verify in district residency. These documents include (but are not limited to) those listed below:
  • TO ESTABLISH PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP, an original birth certificate or original court guardianship document must be presented. In addition, a picture ID (driver's license or state ID) of the parent/guardian enrolling the student is required.

  • TO ESTABLISH LEGAL RESIDENCE IN THE KENWOOD ACADEMY ATTENDANCE AREA, the parent/guardian must present the original copy of the lease, with the management's name and phone number, and three of the following documents:

    • Current utility bills, i.e., gas, light and / or telephone
    • Pre-printed IRS tax returns forms
    • Bank Statements
    • Credit card statements
    • Renters, homeowners or automobile insurance premium statement
    • Cable TC statements
    • Illinois Department of Public Aid Card
    • MediPlan/Medicaid Card
Please note that the address may be verified and visited by Kenwood Academy Security staff and enrollment may be rescinded if fraud is found.

Once the parent has provided adequate documentation to establish residency in the Kenwood Academy attendance area, the following records are needed for the STUDENT ENROLLMENT PROCESS. Please secure these records prior to enrolling.

For 8th Grade Graduates, We Require:
  • Transfer
  • Diploma
  • Latest standardized test scores
  • Current medical records:
    • Physical less than on year old
    • Current inoculation record with proof of having received a second measles shot
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
FOR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSFER STUDENTS, WE REQUIRE:
  • Transfer
  • All high school grades and credits to date (an unofficial transcript)
  • Latest standardized test scores
  • Current medical record (see above)
  • Social Security Card
*The KENWOOD ACADEMY SCHOOL DISTRICT extends from the south side of 47th Street to the midway (5900 S.) and Lake Michigan to the east side of Cottage Grove Avenue (800E).

7th and 8th Grade Programs


New Process for applying to the Academic Center

Your child must submit a GEAP application to your elementary school counselor. Complete the yellow section of the application and submit it to the student's counselor or principal. The counselor or principal will complete the gray and white sections of the application and submit it to the Office of Academic Enhancement, 125 S. Clark St., 4th floor, Chicago, IL 60603. Completed applications must be postmarked no later than December 18, 2009.
Students with disabilities need a combined Reading and Math stanine of 10

Kenwood Accelerated Magnet Program
  • Complete the application. Kenwood has an additional form that must be added to the application if your child is to be considered.

  • Please print clearly or type the application information.

  • You must have a Chicago address.

  • Mail the completed application to the school. (See address on application).

  • Submit only one application.

  • If you reside in the attendance area and want your child to be considered for the Magnet program, submit the application.  Residing in the attendance area qualifies your child to attend Kenwood even if he/she is not accepted into the magnet program.
  • Your child must have at least a stanine of 6 in both Reading and Total Math to qualify. 
    Students with disabilities need a combined Reading and Math stanine of 10

  • A copy of 7th grade scores must be submitted with the application. (See your child's counselor).

  • Acceptance into the Magnet program will be determined by lottery.  Only applicants who meet the requirements will be eligble to be selected in the lottery
  • All applications for High Schools must be received by December 18, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS!

  • If you wish for the school to notify you when your application is received, please include a self addressed stamped postcard. Be sure to write the name of the school on the postcard.

  • All letters of notification will be mailed to parents by February 19, 2010.
